Armed police and soldiers banned from protecting French polling booths

 
Polling station managers will instead be given a hotline number to call to summon the nearest patrol. 
The worrying development comes as terrorists have vowed to target the elections just days after policeman Xavier Jugele, 37, was shot dead and two other officers were wounded in Paris by a jihadist gunman. 
France’s Interior Minister Matthias Fekl confirmed that some 67,000 polling stations would be unguarded.
